Treating and Removing Stains on Designer Bags

!±8± Treating and Removing Stains on Designer Bags

Are you fretting over the offensive stain that has ruined your expensive designer bag? Stains, marks, scratches and such cosmetic damage on your bags must be treated accordingly based on the types of material the bags are made of and the sources of the damage. The most common problems encountered are stains from color being transferred inadvertently from clothes, makeup, food and beverage stains and pen ink marks. In this article, we will share with you some proven tips to restore your bag to its original spotless and immaculate state.

Suede

Examples: Coach Ergo Pieced Suede Tote, Coach Hamptons Suede Hobo & Jimmy Choo Alex Suede.

The majority of stains on suede bags can be cleared using a suede brush. If the stains refuse to go away, try brushing with a suede cleaner over rising steam from boiled water. You can also use a white pencil eraser to rub off minor, dry marks. If yours is a Coach bag, it may have come with a half-pink, half-white block from your purchase. Quite a number of Branded Bags for Less readers have reported it being effective in ridding their Coach bags of ugly stains, marks and even molds from humidity. Simply wet the block and rubbed it gently against the stain.

Note that you should never use stain removers that do not explicitly state they are meant for suede fabric, for they may aggravate the stain and cause irreparable damage!

Leather

Part leather examples: Coach Carly Signature (fabric with leather trimmings), Louis Vuitton Monogram Canvas (canvas with leather trimmings) & Burberry Nova Check Shoulder Tote (canvas with leather trimmings).

Full leather examples: Fendi Nappa Leather, Coach Legacy Leather, Coach Carly Leather, Louis Vuitton Mahina, Louis Vuitton Epi Leather, Gucci Leather Hysteria, Burberry Classic Check & Chanel Classic Medium Flap with Gold Chain.

You can apply leather cleaning cream, conditioner or protectant to remove surface grime and scratches, which is also good for moisturizing the leather so that it looks pristine. One highly raved cleaner is the Apple Leather Care line of cleaners which is able to remove many types of stains such as soil, grease, food and excess oils from leather. Alternatively, any leather protectant like Eagle One Nano Protectant also works well. Spray a generous amount onto a dry, white cloth and wipe it on the leather material of your bag evenly.

For stubborn ink marks and stains on leather, use traditional Asian medicated oil like the Axe Brand Medicated Oil or rubbing alcohol available at drugstores. This little-known technique is employed by handbag shop assistants and many Branded Bags for Less readers have also given favorable feedback that it did wonders for their bags. Pour a little onto a dry, white cloth and rub lightly on the offensive mark or stain and it should come off easily.

Patent Leather

Part patent leather examples: Coach Signature Stripe Patent (fabric with patent leather stripe and trimmings) & Fendi Canvas Patent Leather Bag Du Jour (canvas with patent leather trimmings).

Full patent leather examples: Tods Patent Leather Tote, Louis Vuitton Monogram Vernis & Coach Patent Zoe.

Of all the varieties of material, patent leather is probably the most difficult to treat. Once color is transferred onto patent leather, the damage is likely to be permanent unfortunately. However, if you discover the stain early enough, it might still be possible to salvage the bag through a non-acetone nail polish remover or Mr Clean Magic Eraser according to some who had tried numerous methods to fix the problem.

Canvas

Examples: Louis Vuitton Monogram Canvas (canvas with leather trimmings) & Fendi Canvas B Shoulder Bag (canvas with patent leather trimmings).

Stains due to color transfer from clothes, paper bags and magazines can be treated easily with a white damp cloth or sponge and normal white soap. For food and beverage stains and other stubborn stains and marks, try the Coach Signature Fabric Cleaner which works for other brands like Louis Vuitton and Gucci canvas bags as well. Coach's Official Site gives a quote of for this cleaner. Apply a few drops on a white cloth and wipe the stains off in gentle circular motions. Wipe away excess with a clean white dampened cloth. Some shop assistants and handbag owners also swear by Baby Wipes on canvas.

Fabric

Examples: Coach Carly Signature (fabric with leather trimmings), Coach Bleecker Signature Large Flap (fabric with leather trimmings) & Gucci Babouska Fabric Tote.

Just as for canvas, you can use the Coach Signature Fabric Cleaner which does the trick for other brands of fabric bags too. Coach's Official Site gives a quote of for this cleaner. Apply a few drops on a white cloth and wipe the stains off in gentle circular motions. Wipe away excess with a clean white dampened cloth.

A more economical method which some have used with great success is toothpaste, particularly of the Darlie brand. Apply toothpaste onto a damp, white cloth and rub on the stains in circular motions. Carefully dab off excess toothpaste off the darkened patch and allow it to dry. It works, surprisingly!

Above all...

Always be on the safe side - remember to do a patch test on the inside or an inconspicuous area of your bag first before applying any treatment all over. Do not use detergent for treating your stained bags as it may further damage the finish. Also, avoid contact of your bags with newspapers, magazines, colored paper bags and dark colored cloths during cleaning as color can transfer from these items to your bags in the process.

Fabric Handbags Are Smart and Economical

!±8± Fabric Handbags Are Smart and Economical

It wasn't so long ago when women were spending over 0 for a purse and not giving it a second thought. A lot of these bags were the trend and were made from leather and canvas with little "C's" or "G's" all over it and typically monochromatic or with just a few base colors. That fad has come and gone. Women always want the best for their money, but spending that kind of money these days is hard to swallow. So what's a girl to do?

The answer is to start looking at handbags from new and different materials. One of the new trends is to use cotton or nylon as the base material as the base for handbags. There are five points to consider when thinking about shopping for a new handbag and why not to purchase a leather bag.

First and most importantly is that this type of purse is approximately a quarter of the price. No longer do you have to spend big bucks, you can now find great styles for less than hundred dollars. That's a big difference and will allow you spend the rest of your money on other accessories.

Secondly, fabric handbags are machine washable. How many times have you spilled something on your bag and never been able to get the stain out? We've all experience this and wanted to cry remembering how much money we spent of that other type of purse. These bags can be thrown in the washer and then touched up with an iron and they'll look brand new.

Thirdly, fabric handbags have far more options to style and color than leather or canvas purses. That's because fabric can take on any color, or screen print providing the designer an endless amount of options to choose from. Whereas leather can only be dyed and normally just one color. This allows for much more modern styles than older methods used by major manufacturers. Also, with all of the colors the fabric can take on it's much easier to match and complement your outfit that you're going to wear for the day.

Forth, fabric is much more humane to animals. With fabric an animal doesn't have to lose its life just so we can use it hide. No matter where you are on the animal rights, when given the choice between using an animal or not, I think most of us would choose the life of the animal when there are substitutes that can be found. Lastly, many of the designers are now eco friendly as well using recycled materials from junk yards, thrift shops, and second hand stores. Some designers are even using parts out of old cars, like the headlines or seat belts as the base material for their bags. Not only are these material eco friendly, they are cheap or even free. This saves our landfills and allow you to go green everywhere you go.

These are just a few reasons why fabric handbags are a smart choice compared to leather or canvas. When you consider price, color, style, animal and eco friendly, it's a no brainer that women are now headed in a direction that is reflective of our values in the 21st century.

Building the Model Steam Train Workshop

!±8± Building the Model Steam Train Workshop

The perfect workshop for building model steam trains would be separated from the house, so any noise from power machinery wouldn't bother the family. It would be heated in winter and cooled in summer. It would have storage space for parts and a couple of large workbenches for models in progress. And a vented area you can paint in. Oh, and a built in vacuum system to keep the place clean, and powered air filtration for keeping you healthy. And how about a computer with WiFi, so you could quickly check for tips online without having to run for the house? And, don't forget a coffee maker.

Sounds good, doesn't it? But how many of us hobbyists actually live in perfect worlds? The truth is, no matter what size your work area is, whether it's the dream workshop above or just a cold basement, your drafty garage, or the spare bedroom, you'll always want a few feet more. No, the most important aspect of a model steam train workshop is the will and desire to build model steam trains. With that, a spare bathroom in your condo could be enough space - providing you can fit the finished model through the door!

Here's what you really need to make a very workable space for building your own model steam trains. First, you need a work surface large enough to hold your completed engine or car, with a little extra area for your tools and for spreading out parts. This could be a dining room table, depending on the scale of your model, or a sheet of plywood secured to table legs and perhaps the wall, or simply laid over the room's usual furniture. You'll need a floor you can keep clean, or covered with a light-colored sheet, so that you can see small dropped parts. Eyes not what they used to be...? A magnet can help you find and pick up various pieces.

Speaking of eyes, good lighting is pretty much essential, as is a reasonably good tool set. A magnifier eyepiece can be handy, too. And while the garage or the basement seems roomy enough, you may not want to work there when temperatures drop. A hobby you can't enjoy all year isn't much of a hobby, and that's what makes a spare room in your home a good idea. Plus, family members can help or just be close by for support and company. This is, after all, a hobby the whole family can enjoy and participate in! They probably won't mind putting up with a little noise from time to time; and, they may even bring you that cup of coffee!

Coach Purse Color Abbreviations

!±8± Coach Purse Color Abbreviations

You can find your Coach purse color abbreviations on most price tags that come with these bags. Knowing what colors the letters and numbers stand for can be pretty much nothing but guess work if you are not familiar with the product. There are several reasons why the combinations are hard to understand. First, there are lots of colors. Second, Coach usually separates the color abbreviations by each part, or material the purse is made from. For example, you will have a color abbreviation for the fabric, the leather and the hardware. When there are this many combinations being used it can get confusing! Still, it is very useful.

Let's see what a coach purse color abbreviation might look like. Usually the abbreviation order is hardware, body, leather. We'll use a Soho Signature Wristlet as an example. The wristlet body is khaki color. The hardware is silver and the leather trim, hang tag and strap is chocolate. The tag code (or color abbreviation), usually on the upper right hand corner, will likely show the following:

SKHCH

This abbreviation code stands for S-Silver, KH-Khaki and CH-Chocolate. Easy enough, right?

Not exactly! (but we'll get through it!) Chocolate and chestnut are both close in color and who would really know that CH is chocolate and not chestnut, or cherry for that matter? If you need to know these color abbreviations, it can get confusing. These Coach color abbreviations are important when trying to find a perfect match for your Coach purse or accessory. Sometimes the colors are closely matched but you can only be sure of a perfect match by using the Coach color abbreviations found on the tag.

Another variation of how the color abbreviations are used is that some abbreviations such as Pink will have a number after them such as: Pk1 or Pk4. This can be especially important to know when buying online. The only sure way to an exact match are the color abbreviations and it's always best to ask the seller what the color code says on the tag before purchasing, making sure it's the same as your coach purse color abbreviation printed on your tag.

The hardware does not offer as much trouble and is fairly straight forward. The main metals you will see are BZ-Bronze, B-Brass, GM-Gun Metal and S or SV-Silver. Brass will often have a number after it like B4. To many, brass is brass with the exception of antique brass but again, if you are looking for a perfect match the coach abbreviations are the only certain way to make it happen.

Though not important for matching, Coach also has some standard tag abbreviations for style collections which can be useful. Most are self explanatory such as HMW for Hamptons Weekend or GAL for Gallery. Others are not as obvious such as PFM for Perfume or FLT for Flirt. It's best to use a good Coach color abbreviation chart when you really need to be sure of an abbreviated color or style.
